Blog Tour | Corrupt me #Review

corrupt-me

Izzie Rinaldi has everything going for her. All she has to do is make it through her senior year of college, and then she’ll be off to law school, one step closer to assuming her position at the head of her family’s empire. After a chance encounter with the campus bad boy, Izzie can’t get him out of her head.

Luca Marchese, the smooth-talking son of the most notorious man in Philadelphia, is used to getting what he wants. He hasn’t forgotten the girl he knew as a child, and now that he has Izzie’s attention, Luca will stop at nothing to have her.

Luca’s defiance of the law turns Izzie on more than she cares to admit. She wants Luca to corrupt her in every way possible, despite his reputation as the king of one-night stands. Their attraction is undeniable, but their desire for one another isn’t enough for Izzie to overlook visits from federal agents and the potential ruin of her family.

Linked to Luca and a criminal underworld, Izzie discovers she’s more like him than she thought. But a future with Luca could mean swapping her diamond bracelets for a pair of handcuffs.

My family had a suffocating effect on me, all the pressure of their lies and success weighing me down. Like a bird set free from a cage, for one day, I felt the air breathing back into my lungs. And Luca had had a hand in that.

Luca and Izzie have known each other since they were kids, even shared their first kiss together, but when their families severe ties they no longer get to see each other. Now they are both in the same college, with Izzie trying to enjoy her last year of freedom before taking over the family company and Luca trying to get through college to get to law school. They end up running into each other, and after experiencing the sexual tension between them, Luca decides to pursue Izzie. They know that their families wouldn’t approve them being together but they can’t seem to stay away from each other, until Izzie has to take over Rinaldi holdings a lot sooner than she thought she would. Now she has to decide between what’s best for her company and the man she’s falling for…

So there will be a lot of love for Luca, he’s sexy and a little bit dangerous, but I am going to swim against the stream a little and say that for me what made this book was Izzie. A feisty, beautiful female who doesn’t suffer fools lightly, who has her own money and power but has worked hard for it. I loved Izzie, she didn’t play into certain stereotypes; like becoming a jealous ex, or wanting a guy for his money; she is a strong character and can admit who she is, without beating herself up too much for it.

The chemistry between Izzie and Luca was sizzling, but what I liked the most about it was that it wasn’t insta-love. They’d known each other since they were kids and even though they had lost touch, this was so much more believable than them meeting and falling for each other within a few months. Also I can’t tell you how refreshing it was to read a romance where it isn’t the guy that is the successful businessman and the withering female falls at his feet. These two are on more of an equal footing, with regards to money and power, and the conflict in the story comes from the investigations into them rather than the relationship itself.

Admittedly I did find the first part of the book a little slow; I know that it was to set the scene but I felt that maybe some of it could be cut down; however once the focus switches from their college days to the dealings of the business it really picks up. I feel like if more emphasis has been put on Izzie’s place at Rinaldi holdings, Luca’s dealings and the investigations sooner then some of the things that take place toward the end of the book could have been drawn out more and really added to the suspense in their relationship.

Despite the slightly slow start I got to the stage where I didn’t want to put this book down. Izzie and Luca provided a wonderfully steamy read and I would definitely recommend this book to any romance readers, you’ll definitely find yourself corrupted.

  1. I love that you fell for Izzie 😀 She’s a kickass lady, isn’t she? I totally see what you mean when you say she’s not the jealous type, a certain scene had me loving her even more for her reaction!
