#IWSG – The Funk

This month’s question is: When your writing life is a bit cloudy or filled with rain, what do you do to dig down and keep on writing?

I really struggle with this actually. I haven’t written anything in a while, maybe a little bit of flash fiction but nothing to any of my WIP’s. Sometimes I just get into this funk and I can’t quite get out of it, so I focus on other things, like reading or other creative things and then I know that I’ll come back to it eventually.

I wish I was able to push through but it’s just not in my nature and tends to make it worse as I start to dread going anywhere near my WIP’s if I’m forcing myself.

  1. The important thing is to remind yourself, This will pass. I know how panicky you can feel wondering if you’ll ever get your motivation back. I usually just focus on my knitting for a while 😁

      1. Yes, go work on a non-writing project for a while! You’ll get back in the swing eventually 😁 that’s usually what I do- ignore it until it starts begging me to come back lol

  2. It might help to just sit at the computer and start putting some words down stream of consciousness-style, with no expectations. That could break the ice, and maybe you will find a usable nugget on the page. Good luck to you.
