Romantic Notions

They walked in companionable silence; it was early but they had both felt the need to clear their heads before they faced the onslaught of family visiting over the weekend.

She kept mentally scolding herself, the purpose of this walk was to concentrate on themselves and the now. She had been thinking about what time she’d need to put the chicken in for it to be ready at a reasonable hour, or whether she could sneak in another load of washing.

To try and stay focused on being present she catalogued everything that she could see around her: the houses; the grass; the unusually angled fence; the mist.

But the mist conjured up something in her mind without her meaning it to. An involuntary smile and a longing sigh escaped.

He gave her a sideways glance, “You better not be imagining Mr sodding Darcy coming out of that mist.”.
