Book Review | Machiavellian @XpressoTours

This was a great book to consume my weekend, today I am delighted to help kick off the tour for Machiavellian.

I hungered to be seen.

There were three things I knew about Capo Macchiavello:

He was gorgeous.
He was reclusive.
He was considered one of New York’s most savage animals.

It’s been a while since I’ve read a mafia romance and I am a bit of a sucker for them, so I was excited to dive into this one. I was pretty consumed by it actually, it is the kind of book that I kept wanting to get right back into every time I had to put it down.

I liked that there was a lot going on in this book, I have to say on occasion I did have difficulty keeping up with who everyone was, but there was a lot more than just romance between the pages of this book, there was action and deception as well which kept things interesting. It is quite a long book but it actually didn’t feel like it because there were so many strands to the story.

Admittedly I wasn’t sure about Mari at first she does some things that seem really odd at the beginning of the book and whilst I understand that she is desperate I feel like because I didn’t know her well enough by that point it was hard not to feel a bit weird about it. As the book went on I did warm to her and there were maybe a few choice phrases that were a little grating but she definitely became a character that I was rooting for.

Capo was the perfect amount of intense and mysterious, I don’t know why I find myself so wrapped up in this type of character but he definitely had the right appeal to keep me reading more. The chemistry between the two of them was great, I enjoyed that Mari was unpredictable around him and didn’t bow down to him.

I did enjoy getting to see their romance blossom in Italy, even though it has made me desperate to travel, I felt like the setting at this point in the book really jumped off the page. It was the part of the book that made me feel the most emotional as well.

I haven’t read any books by this author before but since this one was very entertaining I will have to see what else she has written and I am very much looking forward to the next book in this series.
