Mid year check in

It’s that time of year again and I can’t believe that it has come around so quickly, I started doing this kind of tracking last year and I quite like seeing what has tickled my fancy over the year. It is also nice to see where I should maybe brach out more, because it’s always good to dip my toe into something outside of my usual tastes.

This year as well as my own tracking I started using The StoryGraph and they have some pretty cool stats on your reading habits as well which I love so I am going to share what I’ve been tracking and some of the stats that they track. So I am a little behind where I was last year and have read 21 books so far this year and so far out of those books 90% are female writers.

So my books are not quite as well spread this year, I had a bit of a hard time reading February onwards but thankfully I have managed to get back into it. I have definitely not been reading as many books in a series so far this year but the standalone books are at about the same level.

Well the data for both of these charts is totally switched up from last year. So far I have been heavily leaning toward YA, still no middle grade books in the mix and I’m not sure if that’ll change by the end of the year but I’ll be interested to see if the bars look a bit more even between adult and YA by the end of the year. Also I seem to actually be making my way through a lot more ARCs so far this year which is a good sign.

I’m kind of glad that my format graph is looking so even because I really like switching between them and having a different book for a different time of day or mood and this shows that its working out well. I would like to think that the fact that I’ve read more new books means that I am keeping on top of things with my Netgalley pile but I somehow doubt it.

Last year there were a couple of very stand out favourite genres by this point already, I’m glad to see that it’s not quite as much the case at this point in the year and I’m very happy to report that I haven’t read a book that I’ve rated less that 3.5 so far which I think is pretty good going.

Here are my StoryGraph stats, I like that they track things I wouldn’t have thought to and that it tracks genres in a different way than I do, I also like that it keeps a track of my most read authors which is so far Jennifer Lynn Barnes and Kalynn Bayron.

As for my top books of the year, it seems to get harder and harder to narrow it down, and whilst there is a chance that it could change here are some good contenders…
