Book Review | Star Cursed

Doing a lot of catching up on series this week.

Star Cursed
Elizabeth Briggs

My fated mate rejected me, and now he wants me back. I’d rather die.

I’m being held captive by my worst enemies, the Leo pack. My fated mate is their new alpha, and he says he has big plans for me. For us.

But no matter how much the mate bond tries to convince me he’s the one, there’s another man I can’t stop thinking about: the alpha of the lost pack. My new pack.

Kaden thinks I went willingly with my mate and turned my back on him. I don’t know if he’s coming for me, but I’m not giving up ’til I find my way back to himโ€”and to my new family.

I’m an Ophiuchus. I’m Moon Touched. And my enemies have underestimated me for far too long.

I like a bit of drama now and then and after a bit of a cliffhanger in book one I was intrigued to read the next book in the series. Iโ€™m not sure Star Cursed was what I was expecting, well what I mean is it was a bit more unpredictable than I thought it was going to be and not in an entirely positive way.

For the first part of the book our protagonist is being held against her will by her fated mate, who rejected her in the first book, and I will admit this bit was quite difficult to read. It had the dramatic element that I usually love in this kind of story but something just felt a bit off and I couldnโ€™t really figure out why.

Then there was a plot twist that I donโ€™t think anyone would have expected, and whilst it added to the political intrigue aspect of the story and showed that the Sun Witches are using manipulation to get what they want, it was also weird and did give me a bit of a shock. I do wonder if there was maybe a better way to show this without having to use the shock tactic, seems like an unnecessary jump to me.

The reunion with the Ophiuchus pack was a change of pace for the story, and whilst I thought it was going to spell better things for the story, it didnโ€™t quite get back the entertaining nature of the first book. It felt a bit slow and didnโ€™t have the same chemistry the first book had, I still read it and was intrigued by some of the pack politics that start to come later in the story.

I am on the fence as to whether I will read the next book, I am curious about what will happen with the Sun Witches and packs, that part of the story is still very interesting. Iโ€™m not sure Iโ€™m as taken with the romance aspect but never say never, maybe in the new year Iโ€™ll get the urge to revisit the series.
