everywhere in 2025

Happy new year!!

It’s that time of year again, when I start to think about my goals for this year, but before I do that I’ll torture myself and take a look back at all the goals I didn’t complete from last year…just kidding.

I know I didn’t reach any of my goals that I had hoped for but I’m not too bothered by it, I went into the year with the mantra that I would just do what I could. I would have liked to be a bit more consistent, but I have learned that I am just not always a very consistent person, especially when life has so many plans for me. I read 37 books in 2025 which was very shy of my 50 book goal, but I was struggling a little with reading this year, whereas in the last month I have kind of figured out that I enjoy reading across all the formats and like to dip in and out at different occassions so I feel like I might be in a much better groove for 2026.

So to kick off my reading round up of the year here are my top ten books of 2025…

How To Solve Your Own Murder | Kristen Perrin
A Dawn of Onyx | Kate Golden
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo | Taylor Jenkins Reid
My Sister, The Serial Killer | Oyinkan Braithwaite
The Last Lunar Witch | S.F. Henne
Curious Tides | Pascale Lacelle
Great Big Beautiful Life | Emily Henry
Arcana Academy | Elise Kova
And Then There Were None | Agatha Christie
The Agency for Scandal | Laura Wood (I mean this whole series but I just picked this one as the representation)

Usually I would have done a mid year check in but at the mid point of the year I felt like I really hadn’t done well at all with reading and that it wouldn’t be very interesting to look at, so I don’t have a comparison but here are my stats for the year…

This has been a year for very good books, it was funny to see the differences between this year and last years stats. This year the books I read were mostly borrowed, and I’ve taken to listening to more audiobooks because I’ve been enjoying them on my commute to work, which is a big difference to 2024. I’m glad to see that I’m just as widely read as usual, not surprised that fantasy is my top genre but a little surprised about historical fiction being such a big chunk this year. Super happy to see that my ratings are mostly at the one end of the chart, means I’m picking books that I know I’ll enjoy a lot more.

I’ve always been interested in seeing what my visitors favourite posts of the year are, because its always really surprising and I like to see if there are shifts from year to year. Last year it was all book reviews, this year there is one non review post added into the mix…

my 20 books of summer 2025 challenge post

but the rest were all reviews…

Days at the Morisaki Bookshop | Satoshi Yagisawa
The Maddest Obsession | Danielle Lori
I Who Have Never Known Men | Jacqueline Harpman
Local Girl Missing | Claire Douglas
Twisted Pride | Cora Reilly
The Darkest Temptation | Danielle Lori
Sleeping With A Psychopath | Carolyn Woods
The Summer I Turned Pretty | Jenny Han
Unhallowed Halls | Lili Wilkinson

This is the point where I usually set myself a goal for the year and I am notorious for never managing them. So I feel like my main goal will be to just try and read a little every day because I love it and I don’t often make time for it when I get stressed or distracted. I know I say it every year but I am really going to try and knock off some of my Netgalley books this year, because its getting ridiculous how often I say it and it never happens.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I wish you a wonderful year of books.
