Another amazing addition to this series.

A Game of Scandal
Laura Wood
Felicity Vane may be a mathematical genius, but getting her family to understand her academic ambition is proving difficult. As her first social season is fast approaching, it might be time to take matters into her own hands. Infiltrating the glamorous world of The Lucky Penny and winning her university fees over a game of cards could be the perfect plan. if only it weren’t for the interference of Ash, the piratical and frustratingly handsome owner who accuses her of cheating.
Now, Felicity finds herself thrown into the latest investigation of the Aviary – a fearless, covert group of female investigators – and caught up in a dangerous game of cat and mouse with the worst villain they have faced yet. When the stakes are this high Felicity can’t afford to lose, but as she and Ash get drawn deeper into a world of criminal conspiracies is she also gambling with her heart?

I couldnโt wait to get into this book after finishing the last one, and it is another brilliant addition to the series. Iโm honestly a little surprised at how much I have loved these books and that they have all been so good.
As I have come to expect, this book was a very different adventure, but thankfully with a lot of the characters that I have come to love from the previous books and some lovely new ones too. This time it is Felicity, Maxโs sister, who is the star of the show.
I loved Felicity; she is very intelligent and quick-witted. She doesnโt quite fit in with society as she does not want the life that it has laid out before her, but isnโt afraid to go after what she really wants. Of course, this lands her right in the middle of an Aviary investigation, after she finds herself in some nefarious company during a card game.
Luckily, playing cards is how she also gets to meet Ash, a brooding, mysterious type, with quite a few secrets up his sleeve. I also loved Ash; he is charming and enigmatic, allowing Felicity to be who she is without coddling her. I loved watching him get protective over her though.
There was a lot of action in this instalment and a game of wit that reminded me of the Holmes and Moriarty rivalry. This is the first time that the Aviary has been directly under threat, and it was interesting to explore that dynamic. It raised the stakes significantly and made the book almost impossible to put down.
Again, the narration was brilliant, I was more prepared for it being a different voice, and Rebecca Norfolk did a wonderful job. She managed to give the characters unique voices and was the perfect voice for Felicity.
Iโm not sure if there will be any more books to come in this series, but I am hoping that this is not the last adventure for the Aviary. If you havenโt read these books, I highly recommend them.
