A new destination

flash fiction photo

Tears burned her eyes as she drove, no destination in mind.

It was over, a six-year relationship turned to ash in an instant and all that could be found from the charred remains were anger and despair. She hadn’t even thought about what she had put in her bags, things were tossed in because they were sentimental or important, nothing practical that she could use to start again. It hadn’t helped that he’d been following her around as she packed, pleading and begging, telling her it had been a mistake and that it would never happen again.

The anger had over-ridden any sensible plan and the tears were now a mix of anger and frustration at not thinking things through before leaving. She almost missed the handmade “To Rent” sign at the side of the road, she slowed down to get a good look. An old trailer, not what she was hoping for but then the light shifted and the sight made her smile, she couldn’t help but think it was a sign.
