Blog Tour | Awakening the Trinity #review

Well I’ve got a great book to start off the week, if you like your books on the supernatural side then you will definitely want to check this out…

about the book

awakening cover

In the seventeenth-century, an all-powerful witch called Rionach the Dark ruled the Celtic nations with an army of enslaved werewolves. In order to restore balance between Light and Dark, the Trinity of Light was summoned to vanquish the Dark Witch and end the Battle of the Dark Ages.

Seventeen-year-old Quinn Callaghan lives in the small, rustic town of Silver Mountain. Its location may be rural, but it is home to an ancient pine forest that surrounds a supernatural hotspot–a nexus of raw and powerful energy.

When a charismatic witch from Ireland, and a mysterious guy with a secret of his own are drawn to the area, Quinn finds out that she inherited her rare abilities from a revered ancestor. Could it be that she shares a bloodline with the Original Trinity? Nearly 300 years later, the Darkness is returning to Silver Mountain, and the Trinity must stop it.

my thoughts

Awakening The Trinity was right up my street I love a bit of the supernatural so this one was a bit of a whirlwind for me, I got through it so quickly because I was really enjoying it and at times felt like I couldn’t come up for air.

Our main character Quinn is a witch who doesn’t have much guidance and struggles with a part of her magic, I was so glad that she wasn’t always in control of herself and that she didn’t like all of her abilities, it made her much more interesting. I liked that her friend Annabelle knew and tried to help where she could but then you also have the balance of her sometimes having to be left out of things and Quinn dealing with how to let her down because she could get hurt. I thought it was great to have this supportive female friendship that also dealt with when they are annoyed at one another in such a realistic way and not using it for dramatic gain.

Of course I am also a sucker for a mysterious guy so I was totally along for the ride as Quinn gets to know Wren and tries to figure out who he is and why he affects her. I did worry that I was going to be annoyed because they gravitate towards each other really quickly and I do have an issue with ridiculous insta-love but in the end, I didn’t need to worry, there was a good reason for them to be so drawn to each other.

The one thing that just didn’t quite live up to its potential was that the evil presence wasn’t drawn out enough, in my opinion. I feel like there could have been a little more build up to that so that there would be a bit more tension in the story when they go to face it. It just didn’t quite give me that credible threat level when I’m on the edge of my seat and I can’t read fast enough because I need to know what’s going to happen, it definitely had the potential for it though.

I have to say I also panicked a little because I got to a certain point in the book and it felt like the pages were disappearing and there was still a lot happening and a lot of questions that I needed to be answered but my book percentage was too high for it to manage. Thankfully at this point, I realised that there is another book to come, but also now I’m left desperate for the next book!! I need to know what happens!!

about the author

My love for writing began at a very young age–way before I could even type on a keyboard. I was always writing short stories and poems with a fan club of one (my mom.) I never stopped writing, but I don’t think I believed in myself enough to actually pursue it as a career.

When I enrolled in college, I took as many creative writing classes as they offered, and ended up graduating with a degree in photography and minoring in English. I enjoy art in all its forms, but writing has always been my first love. Even when I was pursuing other careers, writing was always my go-to comfort.

I later became an animal obedience instructor and met a children’s author through my dog training. She helped me get my foot through the door, so to speak, and I haven’t turned back since. During the day, I manage an FBO at my local hometown airport, and by night, I dive into my writing with my husband and my four-legged children by my side.
