I am a bit of a sucker for retellings and I have read so many good ones so far for the retellings reading challenge that I am participating in, so I was particularly looking forward to this book because I am on such a good streak with it that I knew it was set to continue.
I was not disappointed, from the start Skies Of Olympus is full of action and intrigue. I was curious about the world of Olympus and how the story would incorporate what I know of Greek Mythology (which it turns out is not very much at all). The author did a wonderful job of creating the world of Olympus with it’s different realms, I liked that they were all named after the star signs and belonged to a different God.
I loved the storyline, it was fascinating, I knew a little tiny amount of the mythology but it was really nice that the author included excerpts from the original stories so you could see where the inspiration was from. The trials were great I liked that they weren’t straightforward and that for Lyssa and her crew it wasn’t just about immortality but trying to stop someone else from getting it.
Lyssa and her crew were great, there is a good mix of mythical creatures in Olympus which makes it even more interesting, but I liked that the crew of the Alastor were kind of the underdogs and more like family than any of the other crews that were competing in the trials. As I mentioned Lyssa has a personal reason to be taking part in these trials, I’m not going to spoil it by telling you more than that, but I liked that she was kind of constantly at battle with herself about how to get to the next stage and whether she would be able to face up to it. I also liked her Rage and I’m keen to see how far she can push her powers.
Skies of Olympus is the first three books in the series and is Hera, Anthena and Artemis’s trials, all I can say is I was hooked from the start and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next books because I want to see what the trials have in store next for Lyssa and her crew.
