It as been such a long time since I’ve joined in with a Top 5 Wednesday but today I just found myself in the mood for something fun. This weeks topic is…jobs in fiction…
What are some jobs in fiction you think would be fun to have or would be willing to try? These could be fictional jobs such as ones from fantasy or these could be “real life” jobs you might find in a contemporary story, or a combination of both!
There were more options than I thought there would be as I looked back at the books I have read over the years because I was convinced this might be a hard one but it was harder cutting it down. So here are the five jobs that made the cut…

The Luminaries | Susan Dennard
I would love to be a part of the Luminaries, my brave side would love to be a hunter keeping the nightmares at bay, however I feel like I’d probably be better suited to looking after the compendium (the big book of nightmares).

The Dead Romantics | Ashley Poston
This will seem like an odd one because what drew me to this book was not Florence’s job, a ghost writer, but her family’s business of the funeral parlour. I think I just loved the small town vibe where everybody feels like family and because of how the funeral parlour is so central to the town as well, which is so unusal but in a nice way.

This is another one where it is definitely the community spirit that would make me want to work there, also the thought of living in a place where the weather is generally nice enough to have an outside pool also made this a good pick.

I think I would quite enjoy being a sommelier in a fancy hotel in the Highlands or if not I think it would be hilarious to pretend to be a sommelier just like Birdy did in this book, not sure I would get away with it for as long though.

The Little Bookshop of Love Stories | Jaimie Admans
I feel like as a book lover I always think of bookshops as my happy place, so winning a bookshop and spending my day finding love stories in the pages of second hand books sounds wonderful.
What would be your favourite fictional job?
If you fancy joining in then be sure to check out the Goodreads group.

I would like to have a “job” as part of the crew in six of crows by Leigh bardugo, only because that’s my favorite book lol.
