Book Review | Wolf.e

I seem to have hit a slump on everything at the minute and decided to give myself April off so that I wouldn’t feel pressure to do anything, but what a book to come back on.

As president of the Hounds of Hell motorcycle club, my life has been infused with darkness and trauma since the day I was born. Chaos is my birthright. I crave it to feel stable. Secure. Whole.
The only people I care about are the ones who don my cut.
Women are just a tool.
Never to covet, only to use, each face blending into the next.
The formula I live by is simple.
Death is always at my door.
I am a soldier of bedlam.

Until a little hummingbird flies into my crosshairs, and Iโ€™m forced to feel something I havenโ€™t felt for as long as I can rememberโ€ฆalive.

Let the hunt begin.

To drag me out of my reading slump, I knew that I needed a book that would instantly hook me, something I didnโ€™t need to think too hard about, and this was a great pick for that. It had romance, it had action, it had steamy scenes, it was the perfect escapism, the kind of book that I can pick up and know Iโ€™m going to be easily transported away from life.

The story was very enjoyable, it was fast-paced, and I quite liked that the romance started in a bit of an  unexpected way. It was at times quite dark in nature, I mean, it’s a motorcycle club, I was expecting a bit of violence, but the darkness bled a little into the romance aspect as well, which wasnโ€™t entirely my thing. When you read it, youโ€™ll know. I mostly skim-read certain bits, but Iโ€™m sure others will love it.

I loved the chemistry between Gabriel and Brinley, they are very different characters, but it works very well. She is a bit sheltered, a little naive, and maybe a little judgmental at times, but she manages to discover a different side of herself as the book progresses. He is controlled, protective, and pretty ruthless. Naturally, he isnโ€™t looking for any kind of relationship, but makes an exception for Brinley.

The one thing that I struggled with between them was that Gabriel kept referencing Burnleyโ€™s wild side, but there hadnโ€™t really been any evidence of it. He tells us quite a lot that she is wild, but I felt we donโ€™t really see it from Brinley. It kind of shines through once he coaxes it out of her, but I donโ€™t feel it was evident. I would have preferred to see it from her, not just be told.

Wolf.e was a brilliant bit of escapism, and Iโ€™m glad to know that there are other books in the series in case I need help with another reading slump.
