Book Review | Twisted Emotions

I couldn’t concentrate on any of the books I had been reading recently but I could on this it was a lot easier to dip in and out of.

Twisted Emotions
Cora Reilly

Nino Falcone is genius and monster. As the right hand man and brother of the Capo of the Camorra, his lack of feelings is a blessing, not a curse – until his brother asks him to marry for the sake of the Camorra.
Kiara Vitiello, cousin of the Capo of the New York Famiglia, is chosen to marry Nino Falcone to prevent war with the Camorra, but what she hears about Las Vegas makes her veins pulse with terror. After her father betrayed his Capo and paid with his life, her family thinks marriage is her only chance to bring honor to her name; but only Kiara knows she’s a faulty prize given in return for peace.
A man incapable of emotions and a woman scarred by the past – an arranged marriage with the potential to unite, or destroy…

After reading about Nino in the first book in this series I was definitely intrigued for his story and was hoping that it would have a little bit more of the spark that I was searching for in Twisted Loyalties. Thankfully it did the trick, there was a lot about this book that I was not at all expecting, there were some slightly heavier themes but there was also more of a complex relationship to explore which I enjoyed.

An arranged marriage trope in this kind of romance book is always entertaining because you know it’s going to make for a pretty interesting getting to know you stage and in this case it worked so well, putting two very opposite people together in this intense and crazy family is asking for trouble in both the good and the bad ways. Kiara has to also live with Nino’s brothers who are not always as controlled as he is and I think that there were some very interesting interactions between them, especially with Remo, I like that the dynamic shifts a little the more she is around.

Nino is an enigmatic character, he is restrained and very straight-forward about who he is and what he will want from you. He treated Kiara with compassion and care as soon as she came to live with them and whilst he did keep himself in check it was good to see the occasional chink in his armour. Kiara on the other hand is a very troubled character who doesn’t have control of her emotions, and has to really work hard on herself to eventually become someone more confident in themselves and to even be a bit sassy.

Twisted Emotions is a lot more character focussed which works with these two characters because of how complex they are, there wasn’t a lot of action outside of the romance which did work well in this book, but I do usually fancy a little more going on outside the romance. I am glad that I managed to enjoy this book a lot more than the first book of the series and it has me very much looking forward to the next book, which I think will have some pretty explosive drama and chemistry.
