Book Review | A Midnight Kiss on Ever After Street #20booksofsummer23 @rararesources

Coming back to a favourite author for my fifth book of my summer reading challenge.

A Midnight Kiss On Ever After Street
Jaimie Admans

A picture-perfect town; a place where dreams come true. Welcome to Ever After Street…

Will a kiss at midnight change her life forever?

Sadie Winters has spent her whole life doing as sheโ€™s told. But when her overbearing aunt forbids her from going to the farewell ball at the beloved local castle, Sadie has had enough!

One magical makeover, one midnight curfew, and wearing a dress of her own creation, Sadie is unrecognizable as Ever After Street’s shy seamstress.

Sadie might dream of meeting a handsome prince but the only person to cross her path is Witt โ€“ the slightly awkward estate agent intending to sell the castle and dash Sadieโ€™s dreams forever.

As the clock strikes midnight, Sadie and Witt share a magical kiss and Sadie knows her heart is in serious danger. Surely Witt must feel the same wayโ€ฆ? Sadie can’t hang around to find out.

But as reality dawns the next day, and fate brings Witt to Sadieโ€™s door again, Sadie realises that her mystery estate agent prince has absolutely no idea who she is!

Sadie canโ€™t forget their midnight kiss, but is she brave enough to change her life and find love along the wayโ€ฆ?

I always know that I’m going to be in a happy mood when I read a Jaimie Admans book because they are usually very uplifting and hopeful and this book did not disappoint. It of course has a setting that sounds utterly magical, a kind of fairytale shopping destination called Ever After Street with a close-knit bunch of shops that are under threat from the possible sale of the nearby castle. This small-town camaraderie in the face of a purchase from a larger corporate company is just always so fun to read about because they always find good ways to band together.

This story focuses on Sadie in The Cinderella Shop who is desperate to see the castle before it gets sold off and goes against the wishes of the residents of Ever After Street and attends a masquerade ball being held there. There was a lot of growth for Sadie as a character, she starts off quite timid and trying to please others more than herself but she soon finds the courage to push her ideas forward and make them happen, there were some scenes with her aunt Ebony that I was cheering her on all the way and was so glad that she stuck to her guns.

The relationship between Sadie and Witt was so sweet, the way it kind of starts as a friendship and then progresses to something more all whilst they are trying to find his Cinderella, there are some very funny moments as people claiming to be his mystery girl come forward. I really liked Sadie and Witt together they complimented each other and I liked that he was so supportive of her promoting the Cinderella story even though he didn’t like being the centre of attention.

The story was so much fun it draws parallels with the Cinderella story that most of us know but in a bit of a fun inventive way, and I loved following Sadie on her journey to evade Prince Charming. There are, of course, some bumps along the way but mostly this is just a book full of hope and wonder. I am always left with a smile after reading a book by Jaimie Admans and this was no exception, perfect escapism and a lovely romance.

Jaimie is a 37-year-old English-sounding Welsh girl with an awkward-to-spell name. She lives in South Wales and enjoys writing, gardening, watching Hallmark movies, and drinking tea, although sheโ€™s seriously considering marrying her coffee machine. She hates spiders, hot weather, and cheese & onion crisps. She writes quirky and uplifting romantic comedies and loves nothing more than escaping into a good book, whether by reading them or writing them!
