After a cliffhanger that definitely left me wanting more, I was glad that I could jump into this book so quickly. Whilst in the first book things only began to get going in the second half of the book, in this one we are thrust into the action from the beginning.   There is so much that happens in this book that I almost don’t know where to begin, there is suspense and drama like you wouldn’t believe.

Donata is forced into marrying Maxim Belov and in between being kept prisoner, trying to escape, hoping Luca will rescue her, and making friends with the wrong people, she is also dealing with how she starts to feel about Maxim.   Donata grew on me in this book after a difficult start in the first book, she is older and has her own path, she is also more confident, and whilst she does still make some bad decisions they are more understandable given what she is going through. Maxim was an interesting addition to the story, more ruthless than Luca but still with a glimpse of a soft side, it was certainly interesting to get a look into the life of the “enemy”.

There is a lot of excellent chemistry in this book and some brilliant hurdles for the characters. I think this book definitely delivered on my expectations regarding the romance after reading the first in the duet, but it exceeded my expectations in the action side of the story.

I could be tempted to start this series from the beginning and see what happened in Donata’s friend’s stories, just so that I can enjoy this world a little longer.
