We have come to the end of the first month of 2026 and it actually went by quite quickly for a change. Didn’t manage as much reading as I thought I might, because I ended up busier than expected, but I did manage to catch up on some books that I had started reading at the tail end of 2025. I’ve been updating my reading everyday on The StoryGraph and that has really helped me to be more consistent with reading, so I’m hoping to continue that for the rest of the year…also because it has some really cool graphics which I am a sucker for.
To kick off my posts for the year I started with my recap of my favourites of 2025, and here is what I read this month…
The Beginning of the World in the Middle of the Night | Jen Campbell
A short story collection that didn’t feel entirely cohesive but was full of imagination.

Monumenta | Lara Haworth
This was a very surreal short story that left an impression but I’m not sure I entirely understood it.

The God of the Woods | Liz Moore
An atmospheric mystery that was slow paced but addictive.

I also hosted a guest post from author Siobhan Murphy on the tour for her book The Vision Board.

Coming up…

Didn’t quite manage the books from the TBR I had set myself from last month, I think because I am struggling with one of them but I might abandon that one and start in on some of the others. I also have some good books in mind for this month, one has made the list because of a film I am quite excited to see this month (can you guess), to get me in the mood.
Happy reading
